Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high performance building system for residential and light commercial construction. The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB). SIPs are manufactured under factory controlled conditions and can be fabricated to fit nearly any building design. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. Building with SIPs will save you time, money and labor.

Are Structural Insulated Panels More Expensive?
Building with SIPs generally costs about the same as or less than building with wood frame construction when you factor in the labor cost savings resulting from shorter construction time and less jobsite waste. Other savings are realized because smaller heating and cooling systems are required with SIP construction.
SIPS are Ideal for Zero Energy Construction
SIPs provide insulated, air-tight construction, with lower costs for getting to zero net energy than traditional stick frame construction. All SIPs manufacturers have had net zero projects and most SIPs projects are HERS rated in the 35 – 45 range pre renewables. The Rocky Mountain Institute’s Innovation Center used SIPs for their new zero energy commercial building, and SIPs are ideal for zero energy homes as well, such as this single family home in Houston.

SIPs are changing the way residential and commercial construction is done worldwide! That’s why we as a company are proud to be a part of the movement towards a smarter, and more sustainable future in the building industry.
We’ve written our own article discussing what SIPs are and why we think EVERYONE should be building with SIPs. If you’ve got the time, we would really appreciate it if you gave it a look!
